Welcome to Bemus Point Elementary!

Happy Fall Y'all

 We are getting into our groove, which is nice, but that means we are beyond the “review” and “beginning of year assessment” windows.  The level of rigor is quickly going up and we want to be sure that your child is supported and growing academically.

First and foremost, it is critical for your child to be here and on time to the greatest extent possible.  Instruction moves quickly and we don’t want your child to fall behind.  We do have systems built in that allow for reteach, but if your child is not hearing information for the first time in the context of a lesson, his level of understanding will not be as deep as his peers.  This is important for PK - 5th graders.  Please don’t misunderstand...if your child is sick, he needs to stay home.  We just want him/her here learning as much as possible.

Back to the beginning of the year assessments ...as mentioned, they have been completed.  Be sure to check with your child’s teacher to discuss your child's strengths and areas for growth.  Conferences are scheduled for early December, but if you have concerns do not hesitate to schedule a time to meet sooner.  Remain involved - Get to know your child’s teacher and let him/her know of any concerns or worries you may have.

Keep the communication going by asking your child specific questions, for example;

What new words did you learn today?  What technology did you use today?

What did you learn in STEAM or specials today?

Help your child be organized by creating a routine.  If he/she always does homework in the same place at the same time, it will become part of how he/she does things throughout their school career.

Lastly, spend time reading with your child.  This is a wonderful way to share special time together, just time with mom or dad!

As always, thanks for partnering with us in your child’s education.  Let’s make it great!
