BPE COVID-19 Alert 10/28/2020

BPE COVID-19 Alert 10/28/2020

Dear Bemus Point Parents,

The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. With that in mind, the purpose of this letter is to inform you that an individual who was present at Bemus Point Elementary School on or about Thursday, October 22, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The local department of health has been notified and is taking further steps. The affected individual has been isolated and the local department of health has or will identify and contact those individuals identified as close contacts of the individual in question. Close contact means being within 6 feet of someone for more than 10 minutes while they are infectious with COVID-19. It also means being in a standard classroom setting for 60 minutes or more with someone who is infectious with COVID-19.

We are working with the health department and are taking all recommended steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Steps we are implementing in cooperation with the local health department include:

• These individuals will not return to our program until they have completed quarantine/isolation procedures for COVID-19 as directed by the local department of health.

The areas used by the individuals were thoroughly cleaned and sanitized on Thursday, October 22, as part of our daily cleaning procedure.

We will provide further updates if additional steps need to be taken by our program. Please continue to monitor you children for symptoms and keep them home if they are sick. In addition, please contact your healthcare provider if your children develop symptoms or if you have any additional questions or concerns. More information on the symptoms of COVID-19 can be found athttps://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home or on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.

Finally, we ask that you please respect the privacy of any individual in our school community who has tested positive and continue to focus on the measures we are taking to protect the health and welfare of our community.

If you have questions regarding the information in this letter, please contact me or any member of the administrative team.

Thank you,

Joe Reyda
